2 Tips for Freezing Fromage Frais

Now you know how to freeze it, we’ve got our 2 top tips which we strongly recommend following when freezing fromage frais to have the best results:

Expect Texture Changes
As with most dairy-based products, the texture will change. The fromage frais will no longer be silky smooth but may have a little graininess to it, unfortunately.Ā

Freeze Quickly
If you know you’re going to freeze fromage frais then do so as soon as you’ve bought it. You don’t want to open it, leave it in the fridge for a few days and then freeze it.Ā

How Long Can You Freeze Fromage Frais?

You should be able to freeze the fromage frais for up to three months. After this you might find the taste deteriorates and that the quality of the fromage frais degrades too.

The better sealed the fromage frais is the better it will keep without getting that freezer burn taste.

How Do You Defrost Fromage Frais?

The best thing about freezing fromage frais is that you donā€™t have to defrost it at all! In fact, you probably donā€™t want to. Frozen fromage frais is such a lovely treat that you might find you and your kids prefer it to chilled fromage frais.

If you do want to defrost your fromage frais then the best way to do it is to pop it in the fridge to defrost slowly, preferably overnight before using.

Can You Refreeze Fromage Frais?

We wouldnā€™t recommend that you try refreezing fromage frais. Dairy products can be a little temperamental in the freezer and although you should be able to freeze your fromage frais once without issue you may not get quite so lucky twice.

The quality of the food will deteriorate so if in doubt itā€™s best to throw any unused defrosted fromage frais away.

Does Fromage Frais Freeze Well?

Fromage frais does freeze very well, as long as you arenā€™t expecting it to be exactly the same as it was fresh. Freezing does change the texture slightly which means the yoghurt can feel almost grainy when defrosted.

This is why we think itā€™s far better to eat your frozen fromage frais when it is still frozen. It tastes amazing this way and you donā€™t have any of the texture change problems.
