Yum Yums are a delicious, fried snack like a rectangular doughnut. Its distinct twisted design separates Yum Yums from other doughnut products. But are you able to freeze Yum Yums?

Can You Freeze Yum Yums?

Yes, you can freeze Yum Yums for up to 3 months. Yum Yums containing any toppings or fillings might not freeze as well as fresh and plain Yum Yums, so consider icing them after defrosting.

Do Do Yum Yums freeze well? Yes

Can you refreeze Yum Yums? No

How to Freeze Yum Yums

If you do not think you are going to eat all of your Yum Yums in one sitting, or simply want to save them for a later date, then no problem! They can be stored in the freezer for another day. Here is how you do that:

  1. Cool Down: Let your Yum Yums cool down to room temperature if they are hot or warm by placing them on an airing rack in your kitchen. Make sure they are not left at room temperature for too long once cooled, though, as their quality will start to deteriorate.
  2. Wrap Individually: This is the best way to ensure freezer burn does not ruin your Yum Yums. Using cling film or aluminium foil, wrap each Yum Yum so that they are tightly secured to ensure freshness.
  3. Put in a Container: A freezer bag is a great way to store your Yum Yums in the freezer so that they do not get contaminated with other frozen goods. Compress the bag or container so that there is as little excess air in the bag as possible.
  4. Label and Freeze: Write the date that you are freezing your Yum Yums so that you know how long they have been in the freezer. Then, simply place the Yum Yum-filled freezer bag in your freezer securely so that nothing can crush them.

3 Tips for Freezing Yum Yums

Now you know how to freeze them, we’ve got our 3 top tips which we strongly recommend following when freezing Yum Yums to have the best results:

Avoid Icing Them
Consider icing or filling your Yum Yums after thawing because they will not freeze as well with these toppings and potentially spoil your Yum Yums.

Freeze Them on a Tray First
It might be a good idea to freeze them on a baking tray for a few hours first before putting them in a freezer bag. This is just another way to freeze your Yum Yums instead of individually wrapping them first before putting them in your freezer bag.

Make Your Own
It is difficult to establish whether your Yum Yums have previously been frozen if you have store-bought them. Therefore, making your own Yum Yums gives you peace of mind that the pastries are fresh and safe to be frozen. It also means you can leave the fillings off, an option you might not have with supermarket Yum Yums.

How Long Can You Freeze Yum Yums?

You can freeze Yum Yums for up to 3 months. If they are frozen for longer than this, they may start to perish and become inedible. Do not leave your Yum Yums out at room temperature uncovered before freezing them! They will collect harmful bacteria, which you will then mistakenly freeze, and nobody wants that!

How Do You Defrost Yum Yums?

Make sure to thoroughly thaw out your Yum Yums prior to consumption. To do this, you can transfer the Yum Yums from the freezer to the refrigerator and leave them overnight.

Remember that Yum Yums might not retain some of their qualities, such as flavour or texture, having been frozen and subsequently defrosted. Once thawed out, stick the Yum Yums in the microwave for a short amount of time to reheat them.

Can You Refreeze Yum Yums?

It is not advisable to refreeze Yum Yums.Ā  Everybody wants their Yum Yums to remain delicious and as fresh as possible, so thawing and refreezing them is not recommended because of the impact these processes have on your Yum Yums.

This is why only defrosting what you plan on eating from the freezer will keep the others fresh, as long as they are not frozen for too long.

Do Yum Yums Freeze Well?

Yes, they do freeze well. Like other doughnut products, assuming they are not frozen for an extended period of time and are packaged securely, they will remain edible and tasty for around 3 months frozen.

Just make sure that theyā€™re not left out at room temperature for too long before freezing, and your Yum Yums should stay wonderfully tasty.

If youā€™ve still got questions about freezing Yum Yums or doughnuts in general, then these may help:

Can You Freeze Filled Yum Yums?

No, filled Yum Yums will not store in the freezer well. The fillings can split which leaves you with grainy Yum Yums. The same applies to those Yum Yums that have been iced too.

Can You Freeze Store-Bought Yum Yums?

Whether you’ve bought them from Greggs or your local bakery, store-bought Yum Yums shouldn’t be frozen as you won’t know whether they have previously been frozen. Instead, each them fresh on the day!
