How to Freeze Turkish Delight

Chances are, you’ve bought the Turkish delight that you now want to freeze. If that is the case then the first thing you’ll need to do is remove it from the packaging.

If you have made your own then this can be frozen too but before you do so, it must be completely cooled to room temperature. You can then get to freezing it:

  1. Place on Cling Film: Transfer the Turkish delight to a sheet of cling film, ensuring it has been well coated with icing sugar or corn starch. The icing sugar will form a barrier between the treat and the film to prevent the two from sticking together.
  2. Wrap: Once you have placed the Turkish delight on the sheet, pull the sheet up and around them to fully wrap.
  3. Check: Once youā€™ve wrapped the Turkish delight, take a moment to be sure that the cling film has properly sealed itself. This will ensure that the Turkish delight is as protected as possible.
  4. Pop Into a Container: After the seal has been secured, transfer the package into an airtight container. You can add several packages to one container.
  5. Seal and Freeze: Once the container youā€™re using is full of treats, press out as much excess air as possible, and then add the lid and seal the container before popping it into the freezer for around 6 months.

3 Tips for Freezing Turkish Delight

Now you know how to freeze it, we’ve got our 3 top tips which we strongly recommend following when freezing Turkish delight to have the best results:

Use Cling Film Too
The seal of the cling film is vital to ensure that the Turkish delight keeps well. The seal must be tight and complete, as that will prevent water from getting to the Turkish delight, leading to the sugar not dissolving, which will keep the treat in good shape.Ā

Keep the Box Away from Frost
Allowing the box to directly touch frost within the freezer will lead to the temperature dropping at the point of contact with the frost. This will often lead to rapid condensation and freezing within the box, both of which could lead to drastic textural changes.

Seal the Box Well
Ensure that the box is sealed to prevent the Turkish delight within from being dripped on by other items in your freezer – thatā€™s important to ensure that the confectionary isnā€™t sitting in a small pool, which would ruin it.

How Long Can You Freeze Turkish Delight?

You can freeze Turkish delight for around six months before the texture is typically too damaged by freezer burn for it to be too tasty anymore.

Of course, it is likely to remain safe beyond this six-month window but the eating experience will not be as nice.

This is one of those rare instances where defrosting them in the fridge is not a good idea.

Can You Refreeze Turkish Delight?

Yes, you can refreeze Turkish delight. Regularly freezing, defrosting and refreezing will slowly impact the texture of the Turkish delight turning it softer and softer over time.

To avoid having to refreeze it, try to wrap the Turkish delight in suitably sized portions.

Does Turkish Delight Freeze Well?

Yes, as long as itā€™s kept relatively dry, Turkish delight does freeze well. This means that its flavour and texture arenā€™t usually negatively affected by your freezer.
