How to Freeze Scottish Tablet

As you might imagine, thereā€™s nothing at all complicated about freezing Scottish tablet. While you canā€™t just throw it in the freezer, itā€™s a remarkably simple process, but weā€™ve covered the necessary steps below just in case you need some guidance:

  1. Allow to Cool
If youā€™ve baked the tablet yourself [instead of buying it from a store], you will need to let it cool before you set about freezing it. It should only take an hour or so for your tablet to cool to room temperature if you leave your tray sitting on the countertop.
  2. Slice
Slice your tablet into suitable portion sizes. How you do this is totally up to you; tiny, sugar cube-sized tablets make the perfect addition to a cup of tea. However, feel free to slice the tablet as generously as you like. After all, itā€™s you who will be enjoying it!
  3. Wrap in Cling Film
Wrap each piece of tablet individually with cling film. This will protect it from freezer burn and will help it retain its texture and flavour when frozen.
  4. Place in Freezer-Safe Bag
Add each of your individually wrapped tablets to a suitably sized freezer-safe bag. Itā€™s best to lie them side by side, as opposed to on top of one another.
  5. Label and Freeze
The final thing to do is to grab a marker pen and label the bag. Itā€™s best to write the date you prepared your Scottish tablet, as well as the date you need to use them. Remember, you can freeze Scottish tablet for around six months.

3 Tips for Freezing Scottish Tablet

Now you know how to freeze it, we’ve got our 3 top tips which we strongly recommend following when freezing Scottish tablet to have the best results:

  • Include Additions – If youā€™re planning to add any extra special ingredients to your tablet (such as a generous splash of Scotch whiskey, for instance) make sure you add it to the mixture before baking and freezing.
  • Crumble for Toppings – If you only have a tiny amount of Scottish tablet remaining, crush it into small pieces before freezing it. This way, it will be a perfect topping for any type of celebration cake you bake in the near future.
  • Keep it in the Fridge Instead – If you think you will eat your tablet within two weeks of baking or buying it, you donā€™t actually need to freeze it. It will keep perfectly fine in the refrigerator for two weeks. Just make sure itā€™s tightly wrapped so it doesnā€™t take on any of the odours in the fridge.
