How to Freeze Sangria

Freezing sangria is simple, but we recommend following our instructions, as itā€™s all too easy to have a spillage in your freezer – no one wants that!

  1. Transfer to a Bag: Carefully pour all the sangria youā€™re freezing into a freezer bag. Be sure to avoid spilling any on the lip of the bag, as it would mean the seal wouldnā€™t work quite as well, leading to a poorly sealed portion of sangria.
  2. Remove Excess Air: As liquids freeze, they tend to expand. To ensure the sangria doesnā€™t burst out of the bag youā€™re using, remove quite a bit of excess air. That way, when the sangria expands, it has a little room to grow into instead of having that room taken up by air.
  3. Seal: To ensure you donā€™t leave any space in the bag for the sangria to spill out of, itā€™s wise to double-check that the seal has adequately been taken – run your fingers across it several times: better safe than sorry!
  4. Freeze: Since there is nothing textural in sangria that could be lost in the freezing process, you can place it at the edge of the freezer: if it gets freezer burned, thereā€™s really nothing thatā€™s lost.

Freezing and thawing sangria is a great way to ensure you have a plentiful supply of the drink. However, you could also ensure that you have a more refreshing drink by not thawing the sangria and instead just blending it. Serve it as a slushy, iced drink, and youā€™re good to go!Ā 

Be Cautious of Solid Fruit
If youā€™re planning to freeze and thaw the sangria, then considering the whole fruit in there is wise. Since itā€™s so packed with liquid, the fruit will disintegrate over time in the freezer. This isnā€™t necessarily a bad thing, but bear it in mind when freezing in case you would be concerned about it.Ā 

Dilute
During freezing and thawing, some water from within the sangria will evaporate. Bear this in mind when you serve the sangria after thawing it – it may need to be watered down slightly.Ā
