Making your own frozen drinks and ice lollies is a great way to save money and make yourself some slightly healthier icy treats. You can freeze all kinds of things but what about fizzy drinks? Can you freeze fizzy drinks and make yourself some frozen treats?

Can You Freeze Fizzy Drinks?

Yes, you can freeze fizzy drinks for up to a couple of weeks if you really want to but it might not be the best idea. The fizz will be gone and if you aren’t careful it can explode in the freezer!

How to Freeze Fizzy Drinks

When it comes to freezing fizzy drinks, the most important thing to remember is that you need to be careful.

Never put cans into the freezer because the liquid and the carbonated bubbles will expand as the liquid freezes and burst out of the can and make a big mess in the freezer.

Time needed: 5 minutes

This is my preferred way to freeze fizzy drinks

  1. Transfer to Containers

Make sure you transfer the fizzy drink into a suitable container. You don’t need to worry about it keeping its fizz because that will have gone by the time the drink is frozen.Decant Fizzy Drink

Can You Freeze Carbonated Water?

Yes, it is possible to freeze carbonated water and tonic water but, like all fizzy drinks, you should expect it to lose its bubbles and therefore be flat when you defrost it.

How to Freeze Different Fizzy Drinks

The above method applies to most fizzy drinks, but some drinks are obviously more popular than others. Below we’ve covered a couple of the most common fizzy drinks.

Coca Cola and Pepsi

Coke can also be frozen, but it will lose all its fizz and become flat. It will still retain its flavour, though. If you have ever wondered why cola-flavoured ice lollies don’t taste like Coke, then this is why!

It’s the flavour of Coke without the fizz. To freeze Coke, you can follow the same instructions outlined above.

Lemonade and Sprite

You can freeze lemonade too. It will lose its fizz, so it won’t be quite the same, but you will still get the flavour of lemonade. You can freeze lemonade by following the same instructions outlined above to freeze fizzy drinks.

Lucozade

Freezing fizzy Lucozade is as simple as pouring it into an ice cube tray or ice lolly mould and leaving it to freeze. Just remember to leave a little space at the top for the liquid to expand.

Freezing can sometimes cause Lucozade to lose some of its fizziness, so be prepared for your frozen Lucozade treats to be less fizzy than the liquid form. Additionally, since Lucozade is high in sugar, it should be enjoyed in moderation to avoid a sugar rush.

Make Ice Lollies

Turning fizzy drinks into ice lollies couldn’t be easier! Simply pour your favourite soda into an ice lolly mould, leaving a smidge of space at the top for expansion. Pop them in the freezer and voila! A fizzy, nostalgic treat is yours to enjoy in a few hours.

How Long Can You Freeze Fizzy Drinks?

Fizzy drinks should only really be kept in the freezer for a few weeks. They don’t freeze well, and I wouldn’t recommend that you freeze fizzy drinks at all. Instead, try freezing orange, apple or tropical juice.

How Long Do Fizzy Drinks Last in the Fridge?

Once opened, fizzy drinks will last for 5 to 7 days in the fridge before they lose their fizz and flavour.

How Do You Defrost Fizzy Drinks?

You wouldn’t usually need to defrost a fizzy drink as most uses for frozen drinks are to be eaten frozen as a tasty iced treat or dessert.

If you do need to thaw out the fizzy drink, then you can take it out of the freezer and pop it into the fridge to defrost slowly.

Can You Refreeze Fizzy Drinks?

No, you shouldn’t refreeze fizzy drinks.

Whilst it shouldn’t cause too much sickness, it will deteriorate the flavour of the drink, and it just wouldn’t be worth it.

Do Fizzy Drinks Freeze Well?

No, fizzy drinks do not freeze well.

They lose all of their fizz because when the drink is put into the freezer, both the liquid and the carbonated bubbles expand, and then these pop and leave you with a flat-tasting frozen drink.
