How to Freeze Curry Sauce

Youā€™ll be pleased to hear that thereā€™s nothing remotely difficult about freezing curry sauce! You just need to be mindful that the container you use may stain, so use something that youā€™re not overly precious about.

If youā€™ve ordered your curry sauce from a takeaway, using the tub it came in is a good idea, as you can dispose of it when youā€™re done. But regardless, providing you choose a container that can be sealed, your curry sauce should freeze without issue.

Hereā€™s what you need to do to freeze your curry sauce successfully:

  1. Cool
Hot sauce and cold freezers donā€™t mix! Before you think about freezing your curry sauce, you will need to make sure it has cooled to room temperature. Simply leave your sauce on the countertop to cool for around an hour, and it should be ready to freeze.
  2. Split into Portions
Unless you specifically want to freeze a big batch of curry sauce, weā€™d advise you to split it into portions at this stage. This makes your life a lot easier when you come to enjoy it and reduces the likelihood of any curry sauce going to waste.
  3. Add to a Container
Pour your sauce into suitably sized containers. Be careful not to overfill them as the sauce will expand in the freezer. Leave approximately half an inch from the top of your container to be on the safe side.
  4. Seal, Label, and Freeze
Fix the lid on the top of your container and seal. If your container doesnā€™t have a lid, use some plastic wrap. Then, write todayā€™s date as well as the use-by date on top, and place it in the freezer. Remember, you can freeze curry sauce for around three months.
