How to Freeze Carne Asada

Freezing carne asada isnā€™t too tricky, especially if youā€™ve frozen meat before – it can be pretty simple. Here are the best steps we have found to work:

  1. Portion: Portion all the meat youā€™re using into portions no bigger than you might eat in one sitting. You cannot refreeze meat, and the carne asada is no exception.
  2. Transfer: Transfer the carne asada to sealable plastic or freezer bags, ensuring that the meat is packed tightly into the bags to be as efficient as possible.
  3. Seal: Press any excess air from the bags out as much as possible, then seal them. Make sure the bags are well-sealed, as that will help ensure you donā€™t get any cross-contamination in your freezer.
  4. Freeze: Place the bags into the centre of your freezer, as far as possible from the frost front at the edges of the freezer, for up to 3 months.

3 Tips for Freezing Carne Asada

Now you know how to freeze it, we’ve got our 3 top tips which we strongly recommend following when freezing carne asada to have the best results:

Check the Seal
Ensuring that the bags of carne asada are well-sealed is a good way to make sure that you donā€™t have any dangerous leakage in your freezer.

Consider a Marinade
While being frozen in a marinade wonā€™t affect meat too much one way or the other, you might consider a marinade because, as the whole package thaws, the marinade flavours will slowly instil themselves into the meat.

Freeze as a Meal
Freeze carne asada with a range of other elements to create a ready-meal. For instance, you could freeze it with some prepared tortillas and some salsa for a quick lunch that you could thaw overnight.

How Long Can You Freeze Carne Asada?

You can freeze carne asada for around 3 months.

This is the maximum we might expect anything to be frozen for, so ensuring that the carne asada doesnā€™t stay frozen for much longer is a good idea.

If the meat is frozen for too long, youā€™ll start to notice textural degradation as freezer burn starts to set in.

How Long Does Carne Asada Last in the Fridge?

Once cooked, carne asada will last in the fridge for between 3 and 4 days when kept in an airtight container or covered dish.

How Do You Defrost Carne Asada?

You can defrost carne asada by leaving the meat in the fridge overnight.

While there, the ice will be able to melt fairly rapidly before the rest of the meat itself is then stored at a safe temperature.

Can You Refreeze Carne Asada?

No, you cannot refreeze carne asada.

The principal reason for this is that the food is meat, and meat cannot be refrozen – it is very likely to pick up some form of bacteria while itā€™s out of the fridge, which it then might cross-contaminate other food items with.

Does Carne Asada Freeze Well?

Yes, most meat items freeze quite well due to the fact that theyā€™re quite protein-dense.

This means that there isnā€™t very much chance for the food to get any form of freezer burn since there is very little water in and throughout it.

If youā€™ve still got questions about freezing carne asada or carne in general, then these may help:

Can You Freeze Carne Asada In Sauce?

Where possible, try to keep the meat as plain as possible to protect its texture. If you’re hard-pushed, however, then it is fine to freeze carne asada in a sauce for around 3 months.
