How to Freeze Cabanossi

Freezing cabanossi is pretty easy. Most cabanossi that you buy will already be cooked and smoked, but if not, you do need to ensure they are cooked first. Then, follow this method to freeze them and retain their flavour.

  1. Cool
Make sure the cabanossi are completely cool if you have prepped and cooked them yourself.
  2. Wrap
Wrap each sausage in cling film. One layer should be enough, but if you want to be extra sure they are protected in the freezer, you can double wrap them.
  3. Bag Up
Pop the wrapped cabanossi into a large freezer bag.
  4. Freeze
Seal the bag tightly. Write the date and contents on the bag and then put the bag into the freezer. Your cabanossi should be frozen in a few hours.

3 Tips for Freezing Cabanossi

Now you know how to freeze it, we’ve got our 3 top tips which we strongly recommend following when freezing cabanossi to have the best results:

  • Wrap in Cling Film – Wrapping your cabanossi in cling film before you freeze benefits you in two ways. To start with, it protects them from the freezer and keeps their delicious flavour locked in. The second reason is to make it easier for you to grab out the perfect amount of sausages when you need them. They donā€™t freeze together in a lump, and itā€™s easy to grab out one or two at a time.
  • Freeze Unopened Packets – If you donā€™t want to freeze the cabanossi individually and you have store-bought unopened sausages, you can pop the unopened package right into the freezer! Just make sure you label them with the date beforehand, so you know when to use them.
  • Freeze in Slices – Cabanossi tastes great as a pizza topping or in sandwiches. Before freezing, you can slice them up and wrap them in individual portions for easy to use sliced meats for lunches and meals.

How Long Can You Freeze Cabanossi?

Cabanossi can be frozen for up to six months. They freeze well but will freeze better and longer if they are wrapped well before putting them into the freezer.

If they are not wrapped, they may not last as long as this before their flavour and texture deteriorate.

How Do You Defrost Cabanossi?

The best way to defrost cabanossi is in the fridge. Take the number of sausages you need out of the freezer and pop them into a bowl. Put this into the fridge the night before you need them, and then let them thaw out fully.

Can You Refreeze Cabanossi?

Any meat can be a little dodgy when thawing and reheating. Bacteria does start to form, especially when the foods are at that optimum bacteria growth temperature. For most foods, this is around room temperature. This is why we wouldnā€™t recommend that you refreeze any cabanossi that have already been frozen once.

Does Cabanossi Freeze Well?

Cooked cabanossi sausages do freeze well. They shouldnā€™t lose any flavour or texture, making them perfect for popping into the freezer for tasty meals and snacks.

Just make sure that you wrap them well before putting them into the freezer. This is the key thing that will ensure the sausages keep well and taste just as delicious once they have been frozen as they would have been fresh.
